Many horse lovers have more than one job. There have been few times in my life where I only had one source of income. In fact, one year was such a whirlwind I had SIX W2s to file for my taxes (most were smaller side-hustles I worked during the same time frame)!
As you might know from following me over the last few years I have begun to take up building jumps.
It all started when we bought our home. I could no longer work off my lessons by doing stalls. When I got Tiger I wanted to jump him at home and I made some jumps. My trainer wanted jumps in exchange for lessons, and the story unfolds from there. The jump standards turned to cavaletti, bridle racks, and grain bins. Last year I grew so much in my skills and abilities and found a new exciting hobby.
Through word of mouth I stayed moderately busy. I’d have someone reach out for a bench, or a few standards here and there.
This year I started a Facebook page for my jump building…(SScribner Woodwork). I have done projects for several local farms already and have been invited to sponsor/advertise at a new local show series.
I’ve been having fun designing new jumps and I have a boatload of pictures that I use for inspiration.
The woodworking has been certainly keeping me busy but I’m also trying not to forget about you here at my first outlet! I will always love The Green Horseman and my amazing followers…I’d love to join the two at some point in the future when the time is right. For now I hope you’ll join me for both adventures!
Here are a few of my recent creations…
Stay tuned for next week’s article, too. Next week is the TOPIC OF THE MONTH and we dive into the microbiome!
those standard wings are beautiful – nice work! i’ve built some very basic upright standards before, but nothing quite so detailed. also have plans to do a similar box (one of these days lol) but using plywood for the faces and without the feet.

Thank you so much! The feet really help because they prevent the untreated wood from contacting the ground and extends the life of the jump overall.
