OVERVIEW:

Over the years I’ve used several different types of leg protection on my horses. I occasionally ride without boots, and I also have some favorites that I use during specific planned rides.

When I’m jumping inside the arena over typical stadium jumps, for example, I choose to use open front boots. I use them as a way to protect the legs from accidental strikes of the hooves and the front provides my horse valuable feedback if he hits a rail. I don’t want him to hurt but I also want him to have a consequence for hitting the rails to encourage him to be more careful and mindful (and pick up those legs!).

I used to use Back on Track open front boots but the style I had is no longer made…so I recently began using this new boot. Originally launched in 2023 I bought Majyk Equipe’s Bionic Hybrid Performance Jump Boot. You might remember my glowing review of the company’s cross country boots not too long ago in 2024 (The Sunday Review: Majyk Equipe XC Boots). I guess you can say I bought into the design and technology Majyk has to offer.

The Majyk Equipe Bionic Boots are equipped with carbon infused guards that protect from impact. The inside of the boot is non-neoprene; rather, it is the ARTi-LAGE (artificial cartilage foam) material; exclusively used on Majyk products alone. The material is typically a soft and pliable but when met with impact it hardens to provide protection. This helps to protect the soft tissues in the legs in case they interfere. These liners can be removed for cleaning.

The front of the boots are as described. Open in the front. It helps not only deliver feedback to the horse when he hits a rail but it’s less material to heat up the legs.

What makes these boots different is that Majyk combined 21st century technology with the traditional leather look. Many parts of the outer shell have a leather appearance with the backs being carbon infused.

The hybrid performance jump boot comes in three sizes and 5 different colors. I went with the black and silver since I love a lot of different colors (I ALMOST bought the green!).

The boots provide a secure fit and the elastic enclosures are easy to attach while staying securely hooked.

PROS:

  • Classy yet sharp look
  • Price is on par with other high quality brands
  • Multiple color and size options
  • Science backed research on the materials used

CONS

  • Not the cheap option

Alternatives:

There are MANY competitors, and everyone will have different claims. Majyk is the only company with ARTi-LAGE technology, any many use neoprene, but you’re welcome to do the research. Some are cheaper and others are ever more expensive than these.

  • Stride Open-Front Tendon Boots

Final Word:

I really do love these Majyk boots. I love the options, and I love that Majyk shares the research with us directly on their website. Stanley goes well with these boots, I use them primarily when we jump in the arena (and use my other Majyk boots for XC The Sunday Review: Majyk Equipe XC Boots). They fit well. Majyk does offer some color options, but they aren’t wild. I appreciate that they are accommodating different tastes without selling out or compromising their quality.

These boots are great for anyone who wants to protect their horse’s legs while stadium jumping or even during flatwork. The open front gives them some feedback when they hit a rail and is more breathable than fully enclosed boots.
