Today the world celebrates National Day of the Horse.

Why?

This day is an observance to the contribution horses have made to our society. Before cars and machines, we had horses. Horses were our transportation. They worked hard. They delivered mail, hauled goods, plowed fields. Some horses/mules were used in mines.

Today we use horses in sport and pleasure, but they contributions they’ve made to developing what we have today cannot be ignored.

Even in today’s world horses continue to have an impact on our economy. The data is a little dated but in a 2017 financial impact study by the America Horse Council the horse industry directly makes up $50 billion in revenue and there are 988,394 jobs within the industry. The US is home to 7.2 million horses.

I’d be interested to see how the impact has changed in the landscape of today’s society post COVID.

Whether you have horses in your life as your career, hobby, sport, or simply just love looking at them there is no doubt they make our lives better.

My life has been defined by horses, and I’ve been lucky enough to have several horses that have shaped me over the years.

I hope you take a moment today and share a photo of one or some of the horses that have made you who you are today.

Below are the horses I own/have owned. Mr Wrench It (“Stanley”), Aloha Friday (“Nahe”), R Tom Cat (“Tiger”), and Warrior’s Blade (“Blade”).

I had begun making a list of the other horses who have shaped me but realize that every horse touches you in some way. They all leave a mark and a special note your heart. So, here’s to my past foster horses, my friend’s horses both past and present, all of the lesson horses, all of the sport horses, and all of the pasture puffs.
