Oh, how time flies! It seems like yesterday that I was announcing the brand new subscription box, Marengo! Now here we are in September and I am unveiling the third curation.

Early this year Carly, former owner and creator of Cavali Club, launched a new one-of-a-kind subscription. Here she has brought all of her brilliant ideas from before but has added a customization option for a good part of the box. The new platform allows her the freedom to offer this to every customer and truly makes Marengo what she had envisioned.

I’ve also noticed that just before a box launch Carly sometimes offers an “add-on” sale and allows you to purchase additional items (usually from past boxes) in your next curation for a discounted fee.

For this quarter we were given 2 customized options:

Customization #1 (Choose 1 from the following):

  • “The Marengo” by Novella Equestrian
  • “Do What You Love” Equestrian Sunshirt
  • Horse Spirit wrap by EQL

Customization #2 (Choose 3 of the following):

  • Pinsnickety Charm
  • Pro4mance Com4rt Grip horse lead with chain by Ace Equestrian
  • Lucky Horseshoe Stud Earrings, Gold Fill
  • Centerline Candles: 8oz candle from Show Collection
  • 2″ Elastic Belt by Ace Equestrian
  • Gallagher’s Water 2 pack
  • Wine Tumbler by Bettina Norton

Aren’t you excited to see?! Let’s unbox this thing already!

My first choice for customization #1 was “The Marengo” by Novella Equestrian. I was drawn to the elegant design. The shirt is classy as is but also has UPF30+ protection and adapts to your body. I’m super excited to go riding with it. This shirt is obviously designed for Marengo but typically shirts from the store average $80. The Marengo box has already sold itself.

For our next customization, I began by choosing a candle from Centerline Candles. I really like the scent and wooden wick from my “Enter at A” candle in the Summer box and I was happy to receive another. This time I received “Course Walk” also called Sunrise Mimosa. It’s heavenly…combining scents of chamagne and oranges!

My other two options came from the same company…I chose the Pro4mance Com4rt Grip lead as well as the 2″ elastic belt both by Ace Equestrian. The lead is a supple rubber-rein type material. I don’t use chains but I can always loop it. The belt resembles a surcingle in a horse blanket. The muted grey is a nice color that should match most of my outfits.

Aside from our chosen items we received a large Blue Ribbon Burger Sponge from the Tackhack. This huge sponge will be perfect for getting the boys squeaky clean.

I was thrilled when I pulled out a green and blue plaid fleece stirrup slipper by The Boujee Equestrian. I swear sometimes I think Carly designs the box just for me. Blue is Tiger’s color. Green is Stanley’s. My helmet, show coat, and boot bags are all green and blue plaid. It just seems too fitting.

Next I found a set of 3 blank cards designed by Kristen Solecki. These cute little cards can be used for anything. Greetings, thank yous, birthdays.

Finally, I found the Muirneen Onaqui necklace. The design was a collaboration between the Wild Beauty Foundation and Ashley Avis (writer/director of Disney’s Black Beauty). This necklace has a stainless steel chain and a small pewter pendant with a horse head on one side and a horse head on the other.

Carly is dedicated to finding high-quality products created by small businesses, not factories. The items you receive in your boxes are the passion projects of fellow horse people like you and me.

I love the way Carly combines customized options while still being able to surprise her customers with some fun, relevant items. The boxes all have incredible value and I’m always excited to open each and every box.

If you’re new to Marengo, I highly recommend it. The box is $79 and only ships once per season (March, June, September, and December). About a month ahead Carly will announce that customizations are open…you’ll have some time to decide and the boxes start to ship the first week of the month. It’s like having Christmas 4 times a year!

You can also peruse the Marengo website where Carly has compiled a collection of high-quality hand-selected items from other small businesses.
